About Us
Inspired by the decade-long success of the Nazareth Science Fest, a group of Bethlehem students, teachers, community members, and administrators known as the Science Exploration Project brought their own Science Fest to life at the Marvine Elementary School last October. The members of the Science Exploration Project design and manage Science Fest, performing tasks ranging from fundraising to securing presenters to organizing volunteers for the event.
The goals of the Science Exploration Project include promoting the understanding of and interest in science through the presentation of hands-on activities, directed for the most part at elementary school students and their families. Science Fest has united many different ages and groups thoughout the district and neighboring communities, not just during the afternoon of the event but also during the crucial months of planning. It also provides a meaningful way for many Bethlehem Area School District students to earn community service hours and to serve as role models to elementary school children.
The Science Exploration Project is currently also exploring the feasibility of expanding its informal science outreach beyond the annual Science Fest through regular presentations to PTOs, youth groups, and other organizations.
